Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit upon the apostles at Pentecost, strengthening them to go out and proclaim his works to the world. Like them, we are called to live as active, spirit-filled disciples of Jesus. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, our bond with Jesus Christ and the Church is strengthened by the Holy Spirit. We open ourselves to cooperation with the ever-present Spirit in a life of ongoing conversion within the faith-filled community.
Typically, students in their sophomore year of high school participate in a year-long program of intense preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This counts as the second year of a two year process; the first of which is completed through regular attendance at either Faith Formation sessions on Sunday nights or enrollment at a Catholic High School. During this second year of preparation, there are hours separate from the Faith Formation and Theology classes held throughout the year entailing reflective journaling, community service, and reflection with their sponsors and this year culminates in the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Spring.
